I don’t remember where I first saw this image of the Rolling Stones done up as Gestapo Nazi pedophile crossdressers but I always found it highly disturbing. Is it the Nazi fetishism? The underage girls? The Pasolini-esque claustrophobia of unbridled power in the wrong hands when ‘everything is permitted’, a la “Salo”? Mick in a g-string? Well, let’s face it, today’s or even yesterday’s rock stars are the closest we get to that nightmarish scenario, but apart from the Nazi fantasies of “Pink” in The Wall, who else among stars and celebrities is aware of it?

Well let’s take a look at the cover of It’s Only Rock and Roll, also by Guy Pellaert:

Looks a little bit like the original, no?

I wonder whose idea this was - surely couldn’t have been Brian Jones’, could it have?

The interesting thing about Nazi fetishism is that while Hitler gets an A+ for costume design and art direction, it is often espoused by the very people that would be at the front of the line to the gas chambers homosexuals (biker and leather dudes) and Jews. Wait, did I just write Jews? Yup. Next up, the curious phenomenon of Stalag magazines from Israel!
